Finding the Little Blessings in Life
Enjoy the little things.
This morning my youngest daughter woke up before I was done my personal morning time. She quietly climbed on my lap, laid her head on my shoulder and listened to music alongside me.
As I thanked the Lord for her soft, squishy cheeks and for how they welcome my lips I had this message rise up with me about enjoying the little things in life.
Who I use to Be
There was a time when torment was my closest companion. I disliked who I became and the situations I was facing. My mind was consumed with distress. I focused on the negative and I was acutely aware of just how powerless I was.
It's been over a decade since I've felt like this and with each passing year, my joy and peace deepens. This is because I have never stopped learning, growing and developing.
New knowledge creates new perspectives, thought patterns and ultimately new emotions and experiences.
Remembering to Be Thankful
This morning as I was enjoying my little one, I was struck by how valuable it is to be thankful for the little things.
Whenever I count my blessings I'm amazed how I'm continually brought to new levels of satisfaction and fulfilment.
My Challenge for You
If you need new strength, if you are facing a difficult situation, or if you just want to experience a deeper satisfaction from life, then I encourage you to do the following challenge.
Look around at all you have to be thankful for and count your blessings.
Do this every. single. day.
I started this by identifying 3 things I was thankful for every evening before I fell asleep.
At first, I started with big things like a roof over my head and a comfy bed to sleep in. Then it progressed into the tiniest and often overlooked blessings like a husband who faithfully goes to work and for a teenager who has positive friendships.
When a New Behaviour Becomes a Habit
As you begin this new behaviour, you'll find yourself naturally noticing small, blessings throughout your day. This will become a habit, a new norm, and as a result, it will usher in new levels of joy, peace and satisfaction.
Now, as I go throughout my days, I don't need to remind myself to be thankful, I find myself instinctively counting my blessings. Such as the smell of innocents on my daughter's hair or the warmth and love in my husbands arms.
I want to invite you to adopt this habit for yourself so you can experience all the blessings your life has to offer.
Will you accept this challenge?
Will you look for and enjoy all YOUR little blessings?
