Overlook Offense, Here’s Why
It is to your benefit to overlook an offence (Proverbs 19:11) Hold on, stop right there, let's define offence so we are all on the same page.
Offence: wrongdoing, crime, sin, misdeed, transgression. If you were to take offence you would get irritated, angry or get annoyed.
So this is saying...
If you choose not to get annoyed or angry when someone does you wrong, you are the ones who will benefit.
You will benefit by maintaining the right attitude.
You will benefit by hanging onto your joy.
You will benefit by not letting someone else steal your joy.
Why is this?
When you get angry, you give up your strength. When you hold onto your joy and refuse you let others steal it from you, you are operating from a place of strength and dignity.
Galatians 6:9 says, do not become weary in doing good for at the proper time you will reap a harvest if you do not give up. If you do good, you will reap a harvest. In other words, doing good brings you good things. Do good and you will benefit!
Hard Principles to Live By
I understand that overlooking offence may seem impossible, but it's not. It may feel awkward, strange, or even wrong, but do it anyway, and rest assured because benefits are coming.
Letting things go is not normal. What's normal is letting people have it, expressing your disdain, and making sure you have the last word. When you've decided to let something go, it will be uncomfortable. There is usually a little pain that follows, but that's a good thing. Here's what is happening: that uncomfortable feeling is your flesh and selfishness dying.
So give it a try, next time someone wrongs you, choose -instead- to keep your joy, overlook the offence, let it roll off your back and keep your strength.
Don't forget... it will all pay off for YOUR benefit!
