How to Define Success

IMG_6990.jpg

Whether you admit it or not, you are seeking success. Everyone is.

No one says, "I don't want to be successful. I'd rather fail."  "What should I do today to ensure that I fail?"

Similarly, no one says, "what should I teach my kids to make sure they grow up and fail?"

That would be ridiculous. All parents want to see their children happy, healthy and successful.

This is how God feels about us as well.

What Kind of Success Are You Seeking?

  • Is it in the area of health and fitness? Do you work out and try to eat healthily?

  • Is it in the area of financial gain? When you took a job, did you consider the pay? If you farm, do you ever increase the number of animals you have? Do you invest?

  • Is it in the area of your home life? Do you like to be organized and have it beautifully decorated?

  • Perhaps succeeding in a sport or in music is important to you so you practice and invest valuable time in this area.

What is important to you? What are you seeking after?

How About Relationship Success

Examine the relationship you have with your spouse, your children, your friends, God. Do you want to improve in these areas?

Perhaps you want to know how to handle your child’s attitude. Or be a confident communicator when discussing a sticky marital situation.

Building successful relationships is something everyone wants and yet, to get there requires time, effort and investment.

But getting back to the topic of this article.

What Exactly is Success?

Success to me looks like this… a pie.

We all have a 'pie' and each piece represents a different area of your life.

Everyone is pursuing success in at least one of these areas, but true success isn’t just succeeding in one area, it’s excelling in all.

So when I talk about being successful and prosperous, I’m referring to success and prosperity in every area of your life.

When I talk about a rich life, I am talking about being rich in health, rich in friends, rich in your marriage as well as finances.

Some wealthy individuals are the poorest people around. They may have money but their relationships are falling apart, they dislike themselves and they are unsatisfied with life. That is not a successful individual.

Now I know some of you are thinking... Does God approve?  Let's take a look.

How Does God Define Success?

Is God okay with defining success and being rich, abundant and prosperous in all areas of your life?

I want to ease your mind by showing you that He is. In fact, he is the author of it.

Here are a few of my favourite verses on success and prosperity

"Christ came to give us life and life more abundantly." - John 10:10

"We can be made rich without added sorrow." - Proverbs 10:22

"If we delight in the Lord we will receive the desires of our heart." - Psalm 37:4

"God is making all grace abound to us so that in all things, at all times we will always have all that we need." - 2 Corinthians 9:8

"You will be made rich in every way so we can be generous on every occasion." - 2 Corinthians 9:11

"The Lord will grant you abundant prosperity" - Joshua 1:8

Just to further solidify that God truly wants his children to be successful the Hebrew word for peace is Shalom, which means completeness, soundness and welfare.

Completeness = This means whole, entire, not lacking anything.

Sound = is to be strong, secure and in good condition.

Welfare = This means all your needs are met.

God wants us to not lack anything, to have all our needs met and to live sounds, secure lives, complete in all areas.

If you think about it, isn’t that what any good parent would want for their children?

The next logical question is HOW do you succeed in these areas?
